GPA Cycling – TDU Challenge Tour 2023

GPA Cycling – TDU Challenge Tour 2023

Many GPA staff are keen cyclists, with a shared an enthusiasm that has seen GPA participate in the TDU Challenge for over 10 years, as well as design our own GPA corporate cycling kit. Cycling events and GPA’s corporate kit are used as an opportunity raise funds for the GPA Andrew Ursini Charitable Fund, with funds raised contributing to cancer research.

GPA are proud to support and encourage our staff to be part of the cycling team. The benefits of being active and socialising as a team, while supporting charities is a triple win!

This year Team GPA were represented in the Tour Down Under Challenge Tour by 23 cyclists, all staff, friends and family of GPA. It was a gruelling challenge, with Norton Summit, Checker Hill, and Corkscrew Road contributing to 2000+ vertical metres of climbing. The 123.5km route was no mean feat, with the professionals tackling the same circuit mere hours later in Stage 3 of the Men’s TDU race.

The air was alive in anticipation, camaraderie helping to dampen nerves and apprehension. Team GPA looking the part in their fresh corporate kit, which displays the company and charity logo proudly. This tough challenge was best faced together, with thoughts of the post-race BBQ getting them over the finish line!

TDU 2023 Statistics:

  • 5km course, 2100 vertical meters of climbing
  • 2,676km ridden by GPA athletes on the day, and well over 10,000km ridden in training rides
  • Between 4-7hrs out on the course for each rider
  • $7,071 raised (and counting) for the Andrew Ursini Charitable Fund

As is the tradition, following the ride it was time for a BBQ lunch in the park, supplied by GPA and cooked by Geoff Mckinnon – Chair of the Andrew Ursini Charitable Fund. The BBQ put much needed fuel back in the tanks of riders and provided the opportunity to share cycling stories over a cold one.

GPA and the GPA Andrew Ursini Charitable Fund endeavour to take part in further active community events throughout the year, such as the WBSLC Pink and Blue Walk, Swim or Run and The City to Bay Fun Run. We look forward to growing staff participation, supporting great causes, and having a blast while doing so!
