Project Marlin
Project Marlin enables the delivery of re-gasified imported LNG supplied from Port Kembla into the Eastern Gas Pipeline (EGP). The project delivers new gas supply south to Victorian gas markets via the Victorian interconnect at Longford Compressor Station (LCS) or north to New South Wales gas markets via the Wilton Meter Station.
GPA was engaged by Jemena to complete the FEED and Detailed Design of Project Marlin. A summary of the project’s high level project scope is as follows:
- Port Kembla Start of Line Facility – This facility receives gas from a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) via Marine Loading Arms and delivers into the new Port Kembla Pipeline, this includes odorant injection, over-pressure protection and pig launching facilities.
- Port Kembla Pipeline – a DN450, 12 km gas pipeline which can deliver up to 500 MMSCFD of gas to the EGP at Kembla Grange.
- Kembla Grange Meter Station – extension to the existing Kembla Grange MainLine Valve Station, included a pig receiver, bulk earthworks, custody transfer metering, and delivery into the EGP via a back-pressure control valve.
- Mila and Michelago Compressor Station Modifications – The modifications were made to enable compression of reverse flow in the EGP.
- Longford Compressor Station (VicHub 2) – The modifications to the complex brownfields site were made to enable gas to be directed from the EGP into the VicHub Interconnect Pipeline and included a dry gas filter, gas chromatograph, flow meters, water bath heater and a dual run flow control skid.
This was a large project completed over 18 months demonstrating a suite of GPA’s multi-discipline engineering services (Process, Mechanical, EI&C, Civil/Structural, Risk). GPA completed numerous deliverables for the project, including:
- Development of documentation (calculation, drawings, specifications, datasheets, reports, schedules, registers, scope of works, and bill of materials).
- Facilitation of various Safety in Design related workshops and management of related activities (30% & 60% Design Reviews, HAZOPs, Level of Protection Assessments)
- Detailed 3D Modelling of the design which integrated site survey scans and incorporated indicative vendor packages.
Through close collaboration between GPA, Jemena, and key stakeholders, the project was successfully delivered within time and budget constraints.
