Christies Beach Water Treatment E&I Upgrade
The Christies Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant receives and treats wastewater from the surrounding communities and industry. Since its commissioning in the early 1970’s, the population of the region has increased, and is expected to continue growing over the next 25 years. SA Water commenced the upgrade of the plant to meet this expected population growth.
The instrumentation and controls (I&C) component of the project involved completely replacing the existing plant process control and system, process instrumentation, and site communications infrastructure. This required engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for all aspects of the plant’s I&C infrastructure.
Key aspects of the project scope included design, specification and implementation of the following elements:
- site wide PLC & SCADA communications networks
- supply and installation of 10 separate Allen Bradley PLC’s (20 racks of I/O)
- iFIX 5 SCADA system (Expected tag count at completion ~20,000)
- all new site instrumentation.
GPA was able to work successfully in an alliance environment with other contractors and complete the I&C component of this significant project without interruption to plant operations.
GPA was the sole instrumentation and controls contractor for the $300m upgrade of the Christies Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant.
