Atlas East Compression Facility
GPA Engineering was engaged by Senex to complete the multi-disciplinary design of their Atlas East Compression Facility. The design was based on the Mimas Compression Facility but expanded upon it by doubling the facility’s gas throughput. GPA’s engineers worked closely with the Senex team to finalise a fit for purpose and readily constructible design centred on the use of pre-fabricated modules for the majority of balance of plant infrastructure.
GPA’s scope was as follows:
- Front-end engineering design to optimise the layout of the expanded facility design for the Atlas East Compression Facility.
- Detailed design of the new Atlas East Compression Facility, including gathering connections and a buried slug catcher, a slug catcher water transfer skid, a sales gas export skid, and a control system to enable remote operation.
- Specification and integration of electric-driven screw and reciprocating compressors, which included an acoustic enclosure around the package to provide noise attenuation.
- Specification of a TEG dehydration package and an enclosed ground flare, including relevant balance of plant design integration.
- Specification and integration of an off-site power station to supply high-voltage electricity to the facility.
- Site-based construction and procurement support, which included system walkdowns, punch item management, and hydrotesting.
- Site-based commissioning and start-up support, including development of commissioning procedures, isolation plans, and troubleshooting of equipment.
Design of facility’s PLC and SCADA control systems including:
- Supplying Allen-Bradley PLC hardware for BoP PLC and SIL-rated PLC hardware or Safety-critical systems
- Functional Description & Cause and Effect creation of Facility’s Balance of Plant (BoP) and Safety control system
- Supplying Allen-Bradley PLC hardware for BoP PLC and SIL-rated PLC hardware or Safety-critical systems
- Integration of other Vendor Packages and PLCs with BoP PLC control system and SCADA using various communication protocols such as Modbus (TCP & RTU), IEC 61850, EtherNet/IP (CIP) and HART
- From scratch development and configuration of SCADA Controls System, including SCADA Standards Documentation
- Creation of FAT and SAT documentation
- Setup and design of Ethernet networks for Operational Technology (OT) and Camera Systems (CCTV)
- On-site control engineering support to assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks
The collaborative approach between the GPA and Senex Energy teams enabled the project to move from concept to production with industry leading schedule outcomes while incorporating lessons learnt from previous designs and updating the design to meet noise and emission targets.
