SunHQ Hydrogen Hub

GPA was engaged by Sun Metals and Ark Energy to provide multidisciplinary engineering design services for the Balance of plant and integration of vendor packaged equipment. GPA has supported Ark from FEED,  through detailed design, producing issued for construction deliverable , programming, providing construction support, as well as Owners Engineering services. The facility is being commissioned with GPA providing both site and remote support.

The project involves a 1MW PEM electrolyser producing green hydrogen from Sun Metal’s 121MWAC solar farm. On-site compression, storage, and refuelling facilities are intended to sustain a fleet of five 140 tonne rated hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks. These trucks, the largest of their kind in the world, will operate between the Sun Metals Zinc Refinery and the Port of Townsville which is an approximately 30km round trip. The use of the hydrogen will displace five existing diesel prime movers and avoid ~1300 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

The facility was also designed with additional capacity to provide third-party customers with green hydrogen to further decarbonise local industry.

GPA successfully completed the multidiscipline engineering design to take the Balance of Plant (BoP) from Stage 1 (30%) to Stage 2 (60%) and Issued for Construction. Once construction was completed, GPA continued to support through commissioning and onsite SCADA training.

GPA provided engineering services for a hydrogen production and refuelling station at Sun Metals Zinc refinery to sustain a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
